How-To Geek journalist Cory Gunther has advised Samsung smartphone users to disable two background data collection settings to improve battery life. In a note published on the media outlet's website, Gunther explained how adjusting these settings can increase device autonomy.
According to Gunther, Samsung devices constantly gather diagnostic data and transmit it to the company. He described this background feature as optional and recommended turning it off to extend operating time between charges.
To disable diagnostic reporting, users need to open the main smartphone settings, navigate to Security and privacy, and select More privacy settings. Disabling the option stops the background process and conserves battery power.
Data collection and memory management
Gunther also recommended turning off a feature in the same More privacy settings section that shares user data with Android personalization services. He explained that background processes continuously analyze user data and usage, which results in higher battery consumption.
Separately, expert Andrey Rybnikov previously warned that system data and application files can gradually occupy a large portion of a smartphone's available memory. Rybnikov advised users to clear junk files from their devices periodically to free up space.
