Salamanca Wins AI Citizen Service Award for New Website

Salamanca City Council has received the 2026 award for best AI-powered citizen service project at the annual Byte TI awards ceremony in Madrid. The award recognizes the local authority for modernizing its public services and enhancing citizen support through advanced, safe, and responsible artificial intelligence technologies.

The prize was awarded during the latest edition of the tech publication's annual event, held on September 24 at the Costume Museum in Madrid. Organizers highlighted the city council's commitment to creating a more accessible and efficient digital environment tailored to public needs.

Award-winning municipal web project

The winning initiative centers on Salamanca's newly updated municipal portal, which was created to simplify how residents interact with local government departments. The digital platform provides a renewed, intuitive user experience designed to streamline day-to-day administrative tasks for local citizens.

Development of the website was managed by the municipal Information Technology department in direct collaboration with technology companies Ayesa Digital and Liferay. Together, the teams implemented artificial intelligence tools aimed at improving website navigation, speeding up information searches, and optimizing citizen communication with municipal offices.

Salamanca, located in northwestern Spain, serves as the capital of Salamanca province within the autonomous community of Castile and Leon. The city council manages municipal services for more than 140,000 residents, overseeing local infrastructure, public administration, urban planning, and civic engagement across the municipality.

Role of Byte TI technology awards

Byte TI magazine is a specialized Spanish news outlet covering information technology, enterprise computing, and cybersecurity. The publication has built an extensive track record within the professional technology sector, providing industry news, product reviews, and technical analysis for business and public sector professionals.

The annual Byte TI awards have established themselves as a recognized benchmark within the Spanish technology industry. Each year, the event highlights innovative digital transformation projects developed by public administrations, state institutions, and private enterprises across Spain.

This year's ceremony took place at Madrid's Costume Museum, known locally as the Museo del Traje. The national museum, situated in the Spanish capital's Moncloa-Aravaca district, regularly hosts major cultural, corporate, and technological events alongside its permanent exhibits dedicated to historic clothing and fashion heritage.

Collaborating technology partners

The technical deployment of the new portal relied on specialized enterprise solutions and engineering support provided by external technology partners. Enterprise software firm Liferay provided core portal capabilities, while engineering and technology consultancy Ayesa Digital assisted with software implementation and digital service integration.

Liferay specializes in enterprise portal software and digital experience platforms used by public sector bodies and enterprise organizations globally. Ayesa Digital operates as part of Ayesa, a multinational technology services provider delivering digital transformation, systems integration, and engineering consulting across Europe and Latin America.

Through the combined work of the municipal IT team and its corporate partners, the updated website integrates artificial intelligence tools designed to handle citizen inquiries more effectively while maintaining data safety and responsible usage standards.
