Ukraine should expect a heavy and disproportionate Russian response after one of the most massive drone attacks of the year on Russian territory, a Russian lawmaker said.
Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale overnight assault on Russian regions on August 2, during which air defense units destroyed 635 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, according to Russian authorities.
Deputy Andrei Kolesnik, commenting to Lenta.ru, said Ukraine’s losses from the promised response would be enormous and difficult to recover from. He added the retaliation would be disproportionate.
Kolesnik said the attacks may involve so-called sleeping cells operating inside Russian territory, as well as mobile platforms including small vessels and boats. He noted that Western countries were participating in logistics that Russia had not yet targeted.
Russian forces also struck Ukrainian ports and ships overnight, hitting fuel storage tanks in Odessa port designated for Ukrainian military use and a tugboat converted for unmanned boat operations in Nikolaev, according to earlier reports.
