Rafael López Aliaga registered as Lima deputy mayor

The Special Electoral Jury of Lima Centro registered the Renovación Popular candidate list featuring former mayor Rafael López Aliaga as deputy mayor on August 4.

The registration request was filed by Fernando Sandoval Ruiz, the principal legal representative of the political group. Although the roster originally named doctor Luis Rubio as candidate for mayor and López Aliaga as candidate for first alderman, Rubio resigned one day before the legal deadline.

Once Rubio's resignation is processed, López Aliaga will become the party's candidate for mayor of Lima. The move allows the Renovación Popular leader to seek the mayoralty while avoiding the legal prohibition against immediate re-election if the party wins the elections.

Electoral court resolution

The electoral body justified admitting the candidacy after confirming that no challenges or objections were filed against the roster within the legal timeframes. The tribunal stated that the period established under Article 35 of the Regulations elapsed without any challenge submitted against the candidate list or any of its members.

The official resolution was signed by tribunal president Ysabel Dorotea Garro de la Peña, members Marcos Villalta Infante and Vilma Escobar Honorio, and jurisdictional secretary Oscar Américo Liendo Álvarez. The magistrates ordered the ruling to be published on the institutional electronic portal of the National Elections Jury and formally notified to the party's representative to proceed with the electoral process.
