Peru’s Ministry of Economy and Finance and the investment promotion agency ProInversion are working to place 1,000 primary health centres under private operation, according to Economy Minister Raul Perez Reyes.
Perez Reyes said his ministry and the Health Ministry are close to formalising a project that would hand the operation and maintenance of first-level health facilities to private companies under a grey-coat public-private partnership scheme.
The initiative is intended to address overcrowding at tertiary hospitals, which are currently handling minor ailments that should be treated at primary care level.
Agricultural Measures and Savings Rates
Separately, Peru’s Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister said the executive branch plans to request legislative powers from Congress to advance an agrarian law and six other measures for the farming sector, including updates related to Agrobanco and agricultural credit.
On the savings front, deposits in financial companies were reported to be yielding more than those in banks or savings banks, with an average return of 2.2 percent as of June. Financial sector stocks on the Lima Stock Exchange posted gains of 23.9 percent.
