Peru’s electoral authorities have confirmed that polling table members who complete their full duties during the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections will receive a payment of 165 soles, equivalent to 3 percent of the current Tax Unit value.
The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Elections Jury made the announcement following a lottery held on July 24 to select citizens who will serve as polling table president, secretary, and third member, along with their alternates. ONPE said more than 817,000 citizens nationwide were designated to fill these roles.
Roberto Burneo, president of the National Elections Jury, said in an interview with Latina that citizens who served as polling table members during the General Elections in April and June would not be called to serve again in October.
Who qualifies for payment
The 165-sole compensation applies to members who work the full length of election day, from installation of the table through the vote count. Alternates who step in because a primary member did not appear or left early also qualify, provided they remain until the end.
Alternates who attend but do not end up performing polling duties will not receive payment. Authorities said what determines payment is whether a person actually worked as a polling table member for the entire day, not whether they appear on the list as a primary or alternate member.
October 4 election
According to El Peruano, the elections will be held on Sunday, October 4, with 83 political organisations taking part. A total of 13,148 subnational authorities will be elected for the 2027-2030 term, including 25 regional governors, 25 deputy governors, 364 regional councillors, 196 provincial mayors, 1,696 district mayors, 1,724 provincial councillors, and 9,118 district councillors.
