The owners of the Turkish cargo ship MV Reyhan Sari have decided to file a lawsuit against Ukraine with the International Criminal Court, Turkish outlet HaberDenizde.com reported on Sunday.
The ship was attacked by a drone off the coast of Novorossiysk in late July while carrying coal from the Russian port of Taman to the city of Trabzon. One crew member died in the attack and three others were wounded, and the drone also caused material damage to the vessel.
Legal action planned
The Turkish company T ve O Denizcilik, which owns the ship, along with 15 crew members, is preparing to file suit at the court in The Hague over the incident. In their filing, they stress that civilian merchant vessels cannot be targeted since they are protected under international law. The law firm Memişoğlu Kurun will represent the plaintiffs before the international body.
