Moldova turned to the EU for help in connection with the consequences of the crisis due to the influx of refugees from Ukraine. According to TASS, this was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic, Foreign Minister Nikolai Popescu.

Popescu said that he hopes for additional and immediate support to the republic in managing the flow of refugees, resettlement to European countries and the provision of financial assistance to ensure decent conditions for those remaining in Moldova.

According to the minister, he stressed that it is necessary to increase gratuitous financial assistance from European partners.

In early March, it was reported that the European Union would provide Moldova with 15 million euros to manage the migration crisis in connection with refugees from Ukraine.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights estimated that by March 18, almost 6.5 million people had become refugees within Ukraine. Together with the 3.3 million people who have left the country since February 24, this amounted to more than 23% of the total population.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” The goals of the special operation are called “demilitarization and denazification” of Ukraine.
