The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia has received a request from the Ministry of Culture of the country with a request to include more than 20 Russian cultural figures in the list of undesirable persons in Latvia.

The list includes Vika Tsyganova, Stas Mikhailov, Valery Gergiev, Nikolai Rastorguev, Polina Gagarina, Vladimir Mashkov, Dmitry Pevtsov, Nikita Mikhalkov, Ilze Liepa, Sergei Zhukov, Alexei Potekhin, Timur Yunusov (Timati), Victoria Daineko and a number of other cultural figures.

According to Inga Vasilyeva, adviser to the minister for public relations, the list includes cultural figures who previously publicly expressed support for Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.

Recall that restrictions against Russia are introduced in connection with the events in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
