The final decision on compromises between Ukraine and Russia will be made at an all-Ukrainian referendum. This, according to Kommersant, was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine.
According to him, we are talking about guarantees of the security of Donbass and Crimea. Zelensky clarified that he had already explained to all negotiating groups that when historical changes are discussed, “we will not go anywhere, we will come to a referendum.”
He also stressed that the Ukrainian side is not ready to accept the Russian ultimatums. According to Zelensky, ultimatums will not lead to any result.
Earlier, the press secretary of the head of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, said that progress in the negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations is not enough to organize a meeting of the presidents of these countries today.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. The head of the Russian Defense Ministry, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, said that the main task of this operation is to protect Russia from a military threat from Western countries that “are trying to use the Ukrainian people in the fight against our country.” In response to this decision, sanctions began to be imposed on Russia. The Russian and Ukrainian delegations held a series of talks on the situation.
We add that Lavrov said that Russia presented Ukraine with specific proposals for a settlement, which Kyiv took into consideration. At the same time, he said, the head of the Russian state, Vladimir Putin, is not opposed to meeting for negotiations with the Ukrainian leader, but for this there must be preliminary preparation. Lavrov also expressed the hope that the special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine will end with the signing of comprehensive documents. They will touch upon the issues of the neutral status of Ukraine, security and the law on the Russian language.
