The police will check the cynical publications in social networks of a person who writes under the name of St. Petersburg University professor Nikolai Mezhevich. This was reported in the virtual reception of the university.

On March 18, the chairman of the student council filed a complaint with the university. The letter states that the posts of the international expert’s namesake mention statements aimed at “inciting hatred on the basis of nationality”, humiliating the relevant social groups and promoting “inferiority of a person on the basis of his social and national affiliation.”

“This appeal, in accordance with the Federal Law “On the Procedure for Considering Appeals from Citizens of the Russian Federation” dated May 2, 2006 No. 59-FZ, on March 18, 2022, was redirected to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region for an audit on the arguments set forth in it ”, — said the deputy rector for security Dmitry Gryaznov.

Recall that the publication of the namesake Nikolay Mezhevich was noticed by students after the news that the professor became the author of the St. Petersburg State University course on the modern history of Ukraine, turned into the life of the “national myths” of the country. The publications of a person running a social network under the name of a scientist mentioned cynical comments about buying a “liberal liver”, calls for quartering and other methods of reprisal against opponents. Now access to the pages of the author is closed.

Nikolai Mezhevich is a professor at the Department of European Studies. The area of scientific interests of the doctor of economic sciences includes international relations in the Baltic Sea region, political history and economy of the Baltic countries.
