The Russian Defense Ministry announced the opening of humanitarian corridors from Mariupol on March 21.

According to Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Control Center of Russia, the silence regime in Mariupol will be announced on March 21, from 9:30 am. The Russian military offers from 10:00 to 12:00 to leave the city to members of Ukrainian formations and foreign mercenaries who agree to lay down their arms beforehand.

The representative of the Ministry of Defense stressed that all Ukrainian military who laid down their arms “are guaranteed a safe exit from Mariupol and the preservation of life,” and Mariupol residents and foreign citizens leaving the city – “an exclusively voluntary choice of any of the humanitarian corridors or the right to remain in the unblocked city.”

The passage of humanitarian convoys from the Russian and Ukrainian sides and the evacuation of the residents of Mariupol will be organized from 12:00. To accompany the columns, the Russian side intends to invite representatives of the UN, the OSCE, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international organizations.

According to the representative of the department, these proposals were sent to the Ukrainian side. To organize the corridors, an official written response must be received before 05:00 Monday, Mizintsev stressed.

Recall, on March 11, the Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian forces blocked Mariupol and mined the main roads to it. In addition, according to the department, bridges and approaches to the city were destroyed.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
