BCRP: formal employment nationwide grew 6.5% in January 2022

Formal employment grew 6.5% nationwide in January 2022, compared to the same period the previous year. In this way, it continues its recovery trend and accumulates 10 consecutive months of sustained growth, according to the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

Regarding formal jobs in the private sector, these increased 7.8% in January 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year. The largest increase occurred mainly in the service and agricultural sectors, where nearly 190,000 jobs were added.

The workforce also achieved a year-on-year increase of 9.8% in the first month of this year. The BCRP pointed out that this result is associated with the improvement of the income of the private sector and the increase in jobs.

Employment level in the fourth quarter of 2021

In the fourth quarter of last year, employment at the national level increased 7.1% compared to the same period in 2020, standing 1.2% above the pre-pandemic level.

“With this, all sectors, except commerce and services, have already exceeded the levels of 2019,” says the BCRP.
