The authorities of Germany and the Netherlands, at the request of NATO, will transfer Patriot air defense systems to Slovakia, and Bratislava will transfer its S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

The department said in a statement that Patriot air defense systems are being installed in the area of the Sliac airbase in central Slovakia. They are intended to strengthen the allies’ ability to protect Slovakia from missile threats. It is specified that anti-aircraft missile systems will begin to carry out their functions from mid-April.

Earlier, Slovakia called the condition for the transfer of the Soviet-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine. This will be done if an adequate replacement is found for him, said Defense Minister Yaroslav Nagy. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly asked the US and NATO to expedite the transfer of S-300s and other weapons to Kiev.

On February 24, the Russian Federation launched a special operation to protect the LDNR, which was preceded by the recognition of the independence of the people’s republics by Moscow. President Vladimir Putin said that “circumstances require Russia to act decisively” and that it will not allow Kyiv to acquire nuclear weapons. Following this, Western countries began to impose the most severe anti-Russian sanctions.
