The European Union will need 50-60 billion cubic meters. m of natural gas to replace supplies from Russia. This, according to RBC, was stated by the Deputy head of the European Commission Maros Shefchovich at the Atlantic Council.

He said, the newspaper reports, that such a volume would reduce dependence on energy supplies from Russia by at least two-thirds. That being said, Šefčović said it was an “extremely difficult” task. For its implementation, it will be necessary to strengthen cooperation between Washington and Brussels in the field of energy security. Also, the EU countries should develop the infrastructure for the delivery of liquefied natural gas.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union plans to stop using Russian gas by 2027. According to her, the EU countries will achieve energy independence from Russia in the next five years. She also said that the European Union bought enough liquefied natural gas in order not to depend on imports from Russia until the end of the cold season.
