American journalist and documentary filmmaker Brent Renault, who died in the city of Irpin, Kiev region, was working on a project for Time magazine, the publication reported.

A statement released on Time’s website said Reno was in the region in connection with a TIME Studios project focusing on the global refugee crisis.

Recall that the death of Renault in Irpin was announced the day before by the head of the police of the Kiev region, Andrei Nebytov. At that moment, the journalist was with a colleague who was injured.

Brent Renault is a Peabody and DuPont award winner. For the past two decades, he has produced films and television shows with his brother Craig. The Renault brothers are best known for their humanist stories from trouble spots including Iraq and Afghanistan. They also covered the earthquake in Haiti, political unrest in Egypt and Libya, extremism in Africa, drug cartels in Mexico and the refugee crisis in Central America.

Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones.
