In the course of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the settlement of the situation, there are positive developments. This, as reported on the website of the Kremlin, said Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I will certainly inform you about the situation in the Ukrainian direction and, above all, about how the negotiations are going now, which are now being held almost on a daily basis. There are certain positive developments there, as the negotiators from our side reported to me. I will tell about all this in more detail,” he said during a conversation with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.

Putin also touched upon the topic of sanctions against Russia, which were introduced after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. He acknowledged that there are problems, but added that “we will get through these difficulties.”

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. The head of the Russian Defense Ministry, General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, said that the main task of this operation is to protect Russia from a military threat from Western countries that “are trying to use the Ukrainian people in the fight against our country.” In response to this decision, sanctions began to be imposed on Russia. Thus, the international payment systems Visa and Mastercard on March 10 suspended their work in Russia. Cards of these payment systems issued by Russian banks will continue to work in Russia, but with restrictions. In particular, the owners of such cards can pay for goods, replenish cards and make transfers from card to card. Payments abroad, purchases in foreign online stores, use in Apple Pay and Google Pay services are prohibited. We add that the Russian and Ukrainian delegations held several rounds of negotiations. Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with Reuters that Russia’s operation could end at any moment, but Kyiv must amend its constitution so that Ukraine would reject any goal of joining any bloc.

“We also talked about the fact that they should recognize that Crimea is Russian territory, and that they should recognize Donetsk and Lugansk as independent states,” he added.
