The Colombian Ministry of the Interior ordered, through decree 318 of March 5, the restrictions against the electoral day that will take place in the neighboring country next Sunday, March 13.
The public order decree orders the closure of Colombia’s borders with neighboring countries for 48 hours, from 00:00 on Saturday, March 12 to 23:59 on Sunday, March 13. Initially, the intention was to close the border ports from Thursday, March 10.

However, due to pressure from the Colombian chambers of commerce and border production sectors, it was forced to reduce the number of days. With the restriction, the international bridges of Rumichaca in Carchi and San Miguel in Sucumbíos will not be enabled for vehicular and human traffic.
Included in the measure are the border crossings of Tufiño and El Carmelo, in Carchi, which were reopened after almost two years (23 months), last Thursday, March 3. Another action is that dry law will apply from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, and the carrying of weapons is prohibited.
Colombia’s 2022 legislative elections will take place on Sunday, March 13. In this contest, the members of the Chamber and Senate of the Colombian Congress will be elected, who will legislate in the next four years.
