Washington considered “unacceptable” Warsaw’s proposal to transfer military aircraft to Kiev through the United States, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
According to him, “the prospect that the fighters will come under the control of the US government and go to Ukraine from a NATO base in Germany is of great concern to the entire alliance.” Kirby added that the US is “continuing consultations with Poland on this matter” but “does not consider the proposal reasonable.” He also added that “the decision to transfer Polish-owned aircraft to Ukraine ultimately rests with the Polish government.”
Earlier, the Polish Foreign Ministry announced the readiness of the authorities of the republic to “immediately and free of charge” send all their MiG-29 aircraft to Germany at the Ramstein airbase, so that later, through the mediation of the United States, they would be transferred to Ukraine. At the same time, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki noted that Poland “is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and is not ready to independently make decisions on the supply of offensive weapons to Kiev.”
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Foreign companies began to leave Russia one by one.
