Leonardo Rentería was killed with several bullet wounds, who was inside a vehicle, near a corner house in the Juan Pablo II neighborhood, in the Familias Unidas sector, south of the city of Esmeraldas.
The crime happened at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 8th, at a time when Rentería was in the vehicle, a white car type.
Subjects aboard a motorcycle arrived at the site and shot the victim several times, witnesses told the National Police.
Rentería was a prison guide, assigned to the Social Rehabilitation Center No. 2 Esmeraldas.
Apparently he was on his day off (Monday). His last shift was on Monday the 7th, reported one of the police officers.
Around 15 ballistic evidence was found at the site. The body was taken in a private truck to the Esmeraldas Forensic Center, after 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 8th.
A lighted candle was placed where Rentería died, while neighbors cleaned the blood that was spilled on the street with water.
Others injured by violent attacks in different sectors of Esmeraldas
Three people were injured in the neighborhoods of El Potosí, Colinas Hermosas and in the sector of stop 10.
A Colinas Hermosas, an 18-year-old man, had his finger severed and had received bullet wounds, while he was near a store in this sector. When police officers arrived at the site, they found a machete, a severed finger and a cap along with blood stains. The wounded man was taken on a motorcycle to a nursing home.
Inside the Pico Rico chicken grill, on Libertad Avenue, stop 10, two criminals on a red motorcycle assaulted those who were inside the premises. The owner of the dining room was injured in one of his hands by a firearm shot by one of the assailants.
In addition, an approximately 23-year-old man was shot while working on one of the steps in the El Potosí neighborhood, south of the city of Esmeraldas, at around 08:00 on Tuesday the 8th.
The victim was with his father unloading construction materials, when a subject would have shot him, according to the police report. The wounded man is in stable condition in a local sanatorium, it was reported. From January to the 4th of this month, 70 deaths with criminal violence were recorded in the six police districts of Esmeraldas. (I)
