The American company Visa intends to suspend work in Russia. This was reported in the release of the international payment system released on Saturday.

“From now on, Visa will work with customers and partners in Russia with the goal of terminating all Visa transactions in the coming days,” the statement said. All transactions with Visa cards issued in the Russian Federation will no longer be available outside the country, and any Visa cards issued by financial institutions outside of Russia will no longer work in its territory.

A similar decision was announced by the Mastercard payment system. “Cards issued by Russian banks will no longer be supported by Mastercard. And any Mastercard issued outside the country will not work in Russian stores or ATMs,” the company said in a release.

At the same time, the statement notes that the company is ready to restore its activities in Russia “when appropriate or if it is permitted by law.”

At the same time, the press service of Sberbank said that the decision of Visa and Mastercard will not affect the work of the bank’s cards within the country. All Sber customer cards will work, and it will be possible to use them to make transactions in Russia — withdraw cash, make transfers by card number, pay both in offline stores and in Russian online stores,” the bank noted.

Meanwhile, the company urged Russians abroad to withdraw cash from ATMs and prepay large expenses such as hotels and tickets. We add that today the cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” are accepted in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, the UAE, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and South Ossetia.

According to NSPK, to pay for purchases and withdraw cash abroad, you can issue a co-badged Mir-UnionPay card, which will be accepted both in Russia and in 180 countries that support work with Union Pay.

Recall that on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation in Ukraine. In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries announced new sanctions against the Russian Federation. Many companies announced their withdrawal from the Russian market.
