At 08:40 on Wednesday, October 27, an alert of the alleged presence of an explosive device forced the evacuation of the El Oro Court of Justice building, in Machala.
The alert was entered through a call to the Integrated Security Service ECU911. Given this, public officials and other citizens who were on the premises had to be evacuated. In addition, the hearings that were scheduled at that time were suspended.
Colonel Carlos Mora, chief of the Machala District National Police, explained that the call was generated from the city of Pasaje and the building’s personnel had to be evacuated, while elements of the Special Operations Group (GOE) entered to make the respective investigations regarding the possible presence of an explosive object in the facilities.
No-passage tapes were placed around the court and the surrounding streets were closed.
After two hours, the police units reported that they did not find any dangerous items and activities were resumed.
