Cycle for World Wildlife Day is announced in several cities of Ecuador

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), within the framework of the actions of its regional project “Alliance for Wildlife and Forests” financed by the European Union, and which seeks the involvement of civil society to combat wildlife trafficking, will hold for the third edition of the Cycled for World Wildlife Day, an event co-organized with Animal Protection Ecuador (PAE Ecuador) and the Quito Zoo, in collaboration with citizen groups and conservation organizations in Quito, Guayaquil, Riobamba, Ibarra and Tena.

In the cities of Guayaquil (Plaza de San Francisco), Riobamba (Parque Maldonado), Ibarra (El Obelisco) and Tena (Ágora del Parque Lineal) it is planned to start the activity at 08:30 on Sunday, March 6 with the concentration of cyclists at the indicated reference points, where material and instructions on the routes to follow, security and biosecurity protocols will be shared.

In these cities there will be a single tour which will end at approximately 11:00. For the closure, it is planned to share information with the public about the groups of species most threatened by wildlife trafficking and about the objective of the campaign “Your house is not my habitat” that seeks to discourage this problem in Ecuador.

In Quito, the activity will begin at 09:00 a.m. after the concentration of cyclists in the Arco de la Circasiana located in El Ejido Park from 08:30 a.m., and it is expected to end at 11:00 a.m. in the closing station that will be held at the Vivarium de Quito. Cyclists interested in participating need to bring: bicycle in good condition, helmet (protective element), sunscreen and/or cap, comfortable clothing (something for the rain), mask and alcohol gel (biosafety), water in reusable bottles.

In this last place, between 11:00 and 1:00 p.m., a mini-fair will be held where attendees and citizens in general will be able to learn more about the work carried out by conservation organizations such as the Fundación Cóndor Andino, Proyecto Washu, the Grupo de Estudios de Primates of Ecuador – GEPE, the Zoological Foundation of Ecuador / Quito Zoo, the College of Biological and Environmental Sciences – COCIBA of the San Francisco University of Quito, the Herpetological Foundation Gustavo Orcés / Vivarium of Quito, Animal Protection Ecuador and WCS Ecuador.

The National Police Unit for Environmental Protection will also participate. (I)
