Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine can start on one condition. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reports Reuters.
“In order to sit down at the negotiating table, you need a ceasefire,” Zelensky stressed. He also expressed hope that the “fighting” would not last long. “I would like to believe that war (ofRussia did not officially declare war on Ukraine, the media, at the request of Roskomnadzor, are obliged to call the actions of the Russian armed forces a “special operation” – ed.), will not last long,” the president said.
Even in an interview, he turned to NATO with a request to provide legally binding guarantees to Ukraine. “If partners do not want us to be in NATO, we need security guarantees,” Zelensky said. He also warned that “Ukraine will fall, then Russian troops will be on the borders of NATO.”
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.” In response to Russia’s actions, Western countries (USA, Canada, European Union, Great Britain, Japan) announced new, tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation, including financial and economic ones. Later, the EU countries and the United States agreed to disconnect Russian banks that fell under sanctions from the international system of interbank transactions and information exchange SWIFT.
On February 28, negotiations between the delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine were held on the territory of Belarus, the Russian delegation was headed by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky. According to the Ukrainian publication Zerkalo Nedeli, the second round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine may take place on Wednesday, March 2.
