Russian and French leaders Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron held telephone conversations. This information was confirmed by the press secretary of the leader of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.
Reuters, citing the Elysee Palace, also reported that Macron had conversations with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is noted that Putin told Macron that Russia is open to negotiations with representatives of Ukraine, but “a settlement in Ukraine is possible with its demilitarization and denazification, neutral status and recognition of Crimea,” and with unconditional consideration of Russia’s legitimate security interests.
The Russian leader also added that “the threat comes from Ukrainian nationalists who use civilians as human shields, shelling the cities of Donbass.” Putin added that “the Russian armed forces do not threaten civilians and do not strike at civilian targets in Ukraine,” the Kremlin said.
Recall, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia” and stressed that “Russia will not allow Ukraine to have nuclear weapons.”
