“Iga Swiatek was in good hands”. Agnieszka Radwañska talks about domination

On Saturday she won the tournament in Doha. In the final, the 20-year-old Polish woman did not give Estonka Anett Kontaveitt any chances, winning 6: 2, 6: 0.

Iga was then eighth in the WTA ranking and Kontaveitt seventh. In the semifinals of Christmas, she confidently – 6: 4, 6: 3 – defeated Maria Sakkari, who was sixth in the world hierarchy at that time. And in the quarter-finals, Polka was clearly better than Aryna Sabalenka, second in the ranking. With the Belarusian Iga won 6: 2, 6: 3.

Iga Świątek closer and closer to the third and second place

In short – the fourth title in the WTA tour in her career (Roland Garros 2020, Adelaide 2021, Rome 2021 and now Doha 2022) Iga Świątek won in an impressive style. Thanks to the victories in Qatar, Iga is fourth in the latest ranking.

The fourth was also in September 2021. But now the second and third places are clearly within its reach. Świątek has 4,776 points, and Sabalenka, who is ahead of her, has only 77 points more. Barbora Krejcikova, who is in second place, also does not have a safe advantage over Poland. The Czech score is 5,073 points. For now, only the leader is out of range – Ashleigh Barty has 7980 points.

Radwańska: “Iga Świątek has everything you need”

– I will not be surprised if Iga ends this year as the leader of the women’s ranking, if she catches up with Ash Barty – she claims, however.

Iga ¦wiatek does not want to predict the ranking position in such a way. But our former champion also appreciates the play of our younger friend.

– I like the dynamics in Iga’s game. Iga’s class is evidenced by keeping a high level practically throughout the tournament, and the ease with which she was able to dominate such strong tennis players as Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka and Anett Kontaveit – tells us Radwańska.

– Iga has everything you need to play the most important role in women’s tennis. But of course, failures will also happen. Because it’s part of the process, notes the winner of 20 WTA singles tournaments.

“If Tomek was not a good coach, I would not work with him so much”

Agnieszka Radwańska believes that Iga Świątek can still develop under the supervision of a new coach. In December 2021, after more than five years of cooperation with Świątek, she announced that she would have a new coach. He became one, which became known in the tennis world thanks to his cooperation with Radwańska. Wiktorowski ran it from 2011 to 2018, until the end of her career. This duo together won as many as 16 WTA titles.

Wiktorowski also starts working with Świątek very successfully. Behind them four tournaments and three successes, because in Adelaide Iga reached the semi-finals, also in the Australian Open to the semi-finals, and now in Doha, she won the event of 1000 rank, the highest after the Grand Slam tournaments.

– I keep my fingers crossed for Iga’s cooperation with Tomek. Iga was in good hands. If Tomek was not a good coach, I would not work with him so much, sums up Agnieszka Radwańska.
