FIDR, the marketer of the anti-COVID Sputnik V vaccine, condemns sanctions against it

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (FIDR) condemned the sanctions imposed against it after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which it described as unjustified, but backed by large international pharmaceutical companies.

“The FIDR has never been involved in any political activity, does not interact in any way with Ukraine and follows the best investment practices in the world, which has been recognized by all its international partners.”, stated the entity in a statement.

According to the Russian sovereign wealth fund, it has always complied “fully comply with the laws of the countries where it makes its investments”, therefore these sanctions show that “The United States has chosen the path to destroy the constructive dialogue between countries.”

“Over the past two years, the Fund has focused on ensuring global epidemiological security through its critical involvement in the fight against the coronavirus in more than 70 countries.”, he indicated, defending that his drugs have saved millions of lives in Russia and other countries.

He denounced that these sanctions, which “hinder efforts in the promotion of Russian vaccines”, are the result of pressure “several large international pharmaceutical companies”.

“As a result of this unfair competition, billions of people around the world could be deprived of access to effective and safe Russian-made vaccines”, warned the entity, highlighting that various international investigations have confirmed its high efficacy against new variants of the coronavirus, as is the case with the omicron.

According to the sovereign wealth fund, these sanctions are “politically motivated and go against the principles of humanitarian cooperation”, while denouncing that this attack against Russian vaccines supposes “a direct violation of socioeconomic human rights as basic as the right to health and medical care.”
