Demonstrations in favor of democracy and peace were replicated in several cities of Ecuador

Plantones were held in parallel with mobilizations promoted by social sectors.

Faced with the mobilizations of different social groups for fuel prices, members and sympathizers of the National Front of Independents held demonstrations on Tuesday 26 in various towns in the country, in order to promote democracy, dialogue and peace.

This morning, the community members closed roads that lead from the city of Ambato to the Quisapincha and Pasa parishes, in the same canton, and also to Guaranda, to protest against the measures of the national government. In parallel, a hundred people grouped in the Frente de Independientes held a sit-in in Cevallos park, in the center of the Tungurah capital, to call for the attitudes of indigenous leaders to be put down and to continue with the reactivation of labor activities.

Marlon Manzano, one of those gathered, said that a group of independent professionals from Tungurahua met mainly to ensure peace and tranquility, without alterations in the country, in order to stimulate the national economy in the face of the economic crisis aggravated by the pandemic of COVID-19.

Presidential spokesman, Carlos Jijón: 18 arrested for closing roads and six roads have been enabled

He argued that they are not against any organization or any person, that they call to maintain dialogue between the Government and social organizations and avoid the closure of roads.

Even this Tuesday 26, in the ordinary session of the Ambato Cantonal Council, Councilor Robinson Loaiza stated that he agrees to a peaceful protest, but never to commit the acts recorded in October 2019. At that time, various sectors from that city were left without drinking water during the protests.

Esmeraldas

Credits for the productive sectors and a boost to the tourism union were part of the main requests of the National Front of Independents during the sit-in it held in Esmeraldas in support of the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso.

Patricio Garcés, president of that group, emphasized the importance of defending democracy and reactivating the economy after the massive vaccination plan. “In Esmeraldas we are working rather than protesting in the streets and highways,” he said.

Also, in her speech, the Governor of Esmeraldas, Tania Obando, highlighted the 9/100 vaccination plan, the Opportunities Creation Law project, among other issues.

For this afternoon, starting at 4:00 p.m., the Popular Front, the National Union of Educators (UNE) and related unions are planning a march against government measures.

Until this noon, the transportation of intra and interprovincial, urban passengers and taxis worked normally in the green province. There were no reports of road closures.
