A judge of Criminal Guarantees accepted the appeal of habeas corpus presented by the defense of Professor Iván Vaca, 81, who was serving a sentence in a Guayaquil jail after the death of a citizen in a traffic accident, a fact recorded in 2017.
With the approval of this appeal, Vaca will serve his sentence at his home and will leave the penitentiary where he had been held since the end of September.
On October 12, Vaca was transferred to the Monte Sinaí hospital, in the northwest of Guayaquil, by decision of the judge. In that health home he received medical attention.
The professor is serving a five-year sentence for the crime of wrongful death and must also cancel a compensation of $ 80,000 to the family of citizen Andrés De La Torre, who died in a traffic accident in which Vaca was involved.
