Russia has vetoed a UN Security Council decision condemning the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The resolution was sponsored by the United States and Albania. At the same time, 11 member countries of the Security Council were in favor, three – China, India and the United Arab Emirates – abstained.
The text reported that the UN Security Council “supports the call of the UN Secretary General to Russia to stop the attack on Ukraine.”
The authors of the document proposed to oblige Russia to stop the use of force against Ukraine and to refrain from the threat to use force against any UN state. The UN Security Council was to oblige Russia to immediately, completely and without preconditions withdraw all its troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
It was also proposed from Russia to cancel the decisions on the recognition of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
Russia, as a permanent member, has veto power in the UN Security Council. In addition to it, China, the USA, France and Great Britain have a similar right.
