After Russia attacked Ukraine in the morning on Thursday morning, UEFA quickly made decisions about the future of both national teams. Russia and Ukraine will not be able to play matches at home. All meetings with teams from these countries are to be held on neutral ground.
Poland offered help to Ukraine
However, the sanctions she imposed do not end there. It is already known that the final of this year’s Champions League will not be held at the stadium in St. Petersburg. It was decided to move the location of this meeting to Paris.
The help of the Ukrainian team was declared by the minister of sport Kamil Bortniczuk and the president of the Polish Football Association. They suggested that the national team of Ukraine and the local clubs should play their home matches at Polish stadiums. The Ukrainian side accepted this proposal.
Serbia will be happy to host Russian teams
It turns out that not only the Ukrainian national team will be able to play home matches in foreign territory. Russian teams received an offer from President Aleksandar Vucic, who invited them to his country. Interestingly, the proposal also applied to other sports teams.
– I received the news about the interest of Russian clubs in playing matches with us, because many teams do not want to go to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Yekaterinburg or Krasnodar. I don’t know whose initiative it is, UEFA, FIBA or ULEB, I have no idea. If everyone agrees, we’ll be good hosts. As long as we can help you deal with this problem, we have no problem accepting clubs. We will guarantee the safety of all, both formal hosts and guests. Serbia has always been a good host, he said.
A match between Russia and the World Cup play-offs is scheduled for March 24. It is not known, however, whether this meeting will take place at all. First, and then the players themselves, published statements in which they categorically rejected the possibility of competing with this national team.
