Canada has imposed additional sanctions against Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. This was announced by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Canada’s sanctions included, in particular, members of the Russian Security Council, including the ministers of defense and finance of the Russian Federation, as well as a number of major Russian banks.

In total, the sanctions affect 58 individuals and legal entities, including representatives of the Russian elites and their families, Trudeau said.

The prime minister added that from now on, Canada will stop issuing and cancel all existing export permits for Russia. He stressed that the new sanctions “will have a broad impact.”

Earlier, the United Kingdom announced sanctions against the Russian Federation. London imposed restrictive measures against Aeroflot, VTB, as well as UAC (United Aircraft Corporation), USC (United Shipbuilding Corporation), Uralvagonzavod and Rostec.

In addition, Kirill Shamalov and the chairman of the board of VTB Bank Denis Bortnikov fell under British sanctions, in particular.

On the morning of February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an emergency appeal to the Russians and announced a special military operation in the Donbass. In his speech, he stated that “circumstances require decisive action from Russia.”
