Political tensions in the National Assembly continue and legislative blocs announce new actions

After the eventful session last Thursday, the president of the National Assembly, Guadalupe Llori, convened for this Saturday, February 26, a virtual meeting of the plenary session to reinstate a session and hear a resolution regarding the processing of projects that propose the repeal of tax reform.

Tensions within the Legislature still continue. Political sectors such as Union for Hope (UNES), the Social Christian Party and the radical wing of Pachakutik now maintain that after what happened last Thursday, the evaluation of the president of the Assembly, Guadalupe Llori, becomes necessary and urgent. , because they are clear violations of the legal and ethical order.

What happened in the Assembly will undoubtedly be part of the evaluation, affirmed the national leader of the PSC, Alfredo Serrano, who indicated that it will no longer be just the issues that the two projects to repeal the tax reform and the qualification of the political trials to the Citizen Participation Council, but the abuses in the plenary session 766.

National Assembly, between chaos and complaints of destabilization of democracy

The evaluation, in the event of a breakthrough, and which would last more than three weeks, has three paths, Serrano stressed: recognizing her work, applying corrective measures and possible temporary suspension, and recommending to the plenary that, in view of non-compliance, she be removed from the position of Chairwoman.

These three political groups consider that in the session of February 24, Llori did not observe the Organic Law of the Legislative Function regarding the appeal of the presidency and suspend the session, they also question the call for the reinstatement of the session for this Saturday at 22:00, when the CAL itself ordered that all plenary sessions must be in person.

While the Democratic Left made a public call to all the block leaders of Parliament to establish a transparent and democratic dialogue table, which allows preserving the institutionality of the Legislative Function, and guaranteeing governability in the country.

The caucus chief, Marlon Cadena, pointed out that Ecuador now needs to fight crime, impunity and corruption. That it is time to stop considering personal or partisan interests that seek to put aside the needs of citizens.

Patricia Sánchez, assembly member of the Pachakutik rebel group, commented that in Thursday’s session the incapacity of President Guadalupe Llori was demonstrated in the handling and management entrusted to her, which contributes to the series of breaches committed with respect to changes to the agenda, requests for points of order or information that are permanently raised, as well as the processing of bills does not make it feasible.

He specified that unfortunately the president of Parliament lost the direction of the management and believes that the Assembly is an extension of the Executive power and what she does is respond to the agenda of Guillermo Lasso’s project, and any point of reaction that is presented to that agenda points it out as a coup.

Sánchez assured that the majority that led Guadalupe Llori to the Presidency of the National Assembly no longer exists, and was reconfigured into another majority to turn Parliament into the counterweight of the Executive. That the call for a plenary meeting for Saturday constitutes a new act of desperation, because doing it on a Saturday holiday at 10:00 p.m., virtually and that it does not observe the same provisions of the CAL, which ordered that all sessions of the full will be face-to-face.

From the ruling party, the legislator Juan Fernando Flores rejected the attitudes that several legislators had not only against the authorities but against several assembly members, therefore, he said that they will file complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office, not only for the insults, but for being violent with others.

The members of the Assembly who say that the law was not complied with are unaware of the law itself, Flores replied, because article 12 of the Legislative Function Law determines that when the president of the Assembly, after repeated calls to the plenary to remain calm and he doesn’t succeed, so he can suspend the sessions, which Correismo forgot, he said.

The legislative caucuses, Flores continued, will defend the institutionality of the National Assembly and will not allow a few to conspire against the stability of the State, because this is not an issue against Guadalupe Llori, but against the institutionality of the Ecuadorian State and the intentions are become in power, not only to co-opt the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control, but with it the nomination of all the authorities seeking impunity.

If they think they are going to violate the law and the institutions of Parliament, they are wrong, because with the same law that they intend to trample on, with the same law we will show that we are not going to allow the National Assembly to be run over, warned the coordinator of the bench of CREO.

The virtual session on Saturday justified the call to deal with an issue that had already been evacuated in other sessions, and that was convened under that modality, because the majority of legislators return to the provinces.

Legislator Fernando Villavicencio (CN-PSE) stated that they were seditious and embarrassing actions, led by Correismo and the PSC, which were registered on Thursday and that they had one objective: to carry out a coup and take control of the National Assembly, remove to President Guadalupe Llori, and then advance in a process of reorganization of the commissions and in particular take control of the Oversight Commission and then advance to the control of the Citizen Participation Council.

Yesterday a real conspiracy was brewing, a coup and the carnival failed, they were wet, but that does not mean that the threats have ended, warned Villavicencio, who said that he will ask the State Attorney General’s Office to investigate the seditious action, because they are identified fully legislators of the Correismo, the PSC and the rebel wing of Pachakutik, and corrupt businessmen linked to the corruption plot of the Sucre case have also been identified.

He insisted that there is a conspiracy of politicians who represent corrupt interests who do not want the Audit Commission and the State Attorney to advance in the crusade against corruption, and the objective is to control the CPCCS, and remove the attorney general. of the State, take control of the courts of justice to review the rulings against Rafael Correa, Jorge Glas, Alexis Mera, among others.

The national legislator commented that this first trial failed on February 24, but that does not mean that the coup attempt has ceased, for that reason, he said that if the coup action persists and at the time Guadalupe Llori is removed from the Presidency , the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, should sign the Decree dissolving the Assembly, which is called cross death. “These coup legislators have to go home and some to jail,” he pointed out.
