El Carmen, MANABI
Antisocials took the two bells from the Holy Spirit church, in the Atenas neighborhood, El Carmen canton, Manabí province. They took advantage of the rains of these days and stole these bronze objects, used in the call of the parishioners to mass and in the event of any eventuality.
Several residents realized what happened on Tuesday when catechism time began.
Faithful of the chapel of El Carmen, in Manabí, denounce the theft of the bell
Victoria Mera, a mother of a catechesis family and a resident of the Atenas sector, said that when they were going to meet in the chapel and went to ring the bells to call the children, they noticed the robbery.
Although they do not know for sure when the robbery took place, the neighbors commented that the previous Friday, when the children attended catechism, the bells were still in place.
The parishioners also rejected the robbery and refuse to believe that someone could attack a temple. They called on the recyclers not to buy the bells and return them.
They have already filed a complaint about it.
“I am very sad because people do not respect the sacred house, they do not respect any of that. We have to place more security,” said Dolores Mero, an inhabitant of Athens.
Criminals stole a bronze bell from a church in Manta
It’s not the first time they’ve been robbed, and on January 17 the Virgen del Cisne chapel was also “visited” by friends from outside, who climbed about twelve meters to lower the bell there.
Thanks to the intervention of several parishioners, he found the place where they had sold it and recovered it in a recycling store. (I)
