The Technical Committee of the International Skating Union (ISU) put forward a proposal to the organization’s congress on reforming the rules for evaluating components in figure skating. The information was revealed by Match TV.
ISU suggested leaving three components instead of five: skating skills, composition and a new component – presentation. It will include some elements of performance and interpretation of music. Also, the tech committee wants to change the criteria for evaluating components. The changes were developed by the ISU working group led by Russian Alla Shekhovtsova.
The ISU Congress will be held in the summer of 2022 in Phuket.
Last year, it became known about the desire of the ISU to raise the age limit in figure skating. They want single skaters to be able to switch to adult skating from the age of 17 instead of 15. The issue will be considered at the ISU congress in 2022. If the initiative is approved, the new rules will come into force in the 2023/2024 season.
