“If Russia decides to recognize the so-called ‘Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics’, then this will mean a gross violation of international law, the sovereignty of Ukraine and its territorial integrity,” the appeal to the EU says.
On February 15, the State Duma approved the resolution of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation on an appeal to the President of Russia on the need to recognize the DPR and LPR. This decision provoked the indignation of a number of high-ranking Western politicians, including the head of the British Ministry of Defense Ben Wallace, who announced that the United Kingdom should not recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed people’s republics that do not recognize the power of Kiev.
