The Arbitration Court in The Hague begins hearings on compensation to the Ukrainian company Naftogaz for $10 billion for lost opportunities to use the former assets of Naftogaz in Crimea.

This was announced on Facebook by the head of the Ukrainian company Yuriy Vitrenko.

We are talking about deposits, drilling rigs, underground storage facilities, ships, the gas transmission system and other facilities that Naftogaz cannot use due to the entry of Crimea into Russia. At the same time, the amount of damage, named by Kiev, grew from year to year.

The head of Naftogaz recalled that work on substantiating the claim was started by Kiev back in 2015 and hopes that the arbitration decision will be made in early 2023, which is due to the “extreme complexity” of the process.

Initially, according to him, Russia refused to participate in the process, but changed its position after the arbitral award in favor of Naftogaz and “recognizing Russia guilty of exploiting Ukrainian assets.”
