Ukraine’s renunciation of nuclear weapons was a mistake. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the American television channel CBS Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
When asked if he believes that Ukraine should not have given up nuclear weapons, and that the decision itself was a mistake, Kuleba replied: “Yes.”
“Given the fact that we have abandoned our nuclear arsenal and the security guarantees we were given have not worked, I think some countries should feel responsible for this. And work hard to find the right and effective security guarantee for Ukraine,” he added.
According to the Budapest Memorandum, signed in 1994 by the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Great Britain and the United States, Ukraine eliminated its nuclear arsenal, and Russia, the United States and Great Britain guaranteed Kiev’s security.
Earlier, US President Joseph Biden said that Russia’s “attack” on Ukraine could happen “in the coming days.” Moreover, he expressed confidence that Putin allegedly decided on an “invasion”. The American leader added that the United States will not send its soldiers to Ukraine, but will continue to support the Ukrainian people. In the event of an “invasion”, Russia faces sanctions. Moscow denies all accusations and says it has no intention of attacking anyone.
We add that now the situation around Ukraine has escalated due to shelling, and the LPR and DPR have announced general mobilization, the population is being evacuated to Russia.
