The head of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR), Elena Vyalbe, spoke about therapeutic exceptions in sports. Her words are quoted by TASS.
Vyalbe called for the disclosure of data on the use of therapeutic exceptions by athletes. “I don’t want to know what a person is sick with, but why the world doesn’t know if a person is healthy or should be sympathized with. I think that would be the right thing to do,” she said.
The head of the federation proposed not to fix the specific names of drugs and indicate only the number of drugs used. “If an athlete had it last year, but not this year, then the person has recovered. And if he has been performing with an exception for 20 years, a doubt creeps in that this is a chronic illness or a chronic deceit, ”she added.
In March 2021, Vyalbe said she considers Norwegian athletes with asthma to receive therapeutic exemptions as a loophole to win. The Norwegian national team trains on an equal footing with the Russian team, however, according to the expert, therapeutic exceptions become legal doping, which helps them defeat their rivals.
