In figure skating in women’s competitions, it is worth raising the age limit. This opinion was expressed by TASS President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe.
She clarified that she agreed with the proposal to allow only adults to participate in the Olympic Games. “If the qualification rises, then the girls will have a chance to compete at two Olympics, now they don’t have such a chance. I don’t even know if there is another sport where you know in advance that you will only compete at one Olympics, that you won’t have a second chance for 99 percent, ”said Vyalbe.

On February 9, the Council of the International Skating Union (ISU) called for a phased increase in the age limit in figure skating and submitted a proposal to the organization’s congress in 2022. According to the initiative, next season figure skaters will still be able to participate in adult competitions from the age of 15. Changes are proposed to be introduced from the 2023/24 season, raising the minimum age for participants in adult competitions to 16 years. In the 2024/25 season, the age bar is proposed to be set at 17 years. According to ISU experts, such measures will protect the physical and mental health of athletes. At the same time, the gradual introduction of new rules will help the skaters adapt to them.
