Fully vaccinated older adults who become ill show 12 symptoms of the new Omicron strain, including a runny nose and increased fatigue. This conclusion was made by French scientists, reports the medical journal Eurosurveillance.

The researchers studied the condition of 129 people who attended three events organized for vaccinated older people – the age of the study participants was predominantly over 65 years old. Activities included a shared gala dinner with a dance party, a road trip with cars, and a choir meeting. After that, 75 participants were diagnosed with COVID-19, the average age of the sick was 72.4 years, RBC reports.

The most common symptoms were a runny nose, fatigue syndrome, cough, a minority of the sick complained of sore throat, headache, muscle pain and fever, shortness of breath, loss of taste and aroma, and diarrhea.

Recall that in early November 2021, a new strain of coronavirus B.1.1.529 was detected in South Africa and Botswana, which contains 32 mutations in the S protein. At an emergency meeting on 26 November, the World Health Organization designated B.1.1.529 as “Concern” and named it “omicron” after the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet. “Omicron” has a large number of mutations, it also spreads faster than the “delta” type. A new strain of coronavirus with increased mobility has already been detected in more than 140 countries, including Russia.
