The Russian Foreign Ministry published the text of a written reaction to the US response on security guarantees. It is reported by RBC.
Earlier it was announced that this eleven-page document was handed over to the US Ambassador in Moscow, John Sullivan.
In particular, it refers to the proposal of the Russian Federation to the United States to develop a new “security equation”, as well as to withdraw all American troops and weapons from central, eastern, southeastern Europe and the Baltic states. In addition, Russia expects specific proposals from the US and NATO on the content and forms of legal consolidation of the North Atlantic Alliance’s refusal to expand to the east.
The Foreign Ministry also criticizes the reaction of the United States and NATO to Russia’s proposals on security guarantees. “The package nature of Russian proposals was ignored, from which “convenient” topics were deliberately chosen, which, in turn, are “twisted” in the direction of creating advantages for the United States and its allies,” the document says. At the same time, the Russian side notes Washington’s readiness to work substantively on individual arms control and risk reduction measures.
A separate topic is the situation around Ukraine, which has been preparing for a hypothetical “Russian invasion” for several months in a row, while Washington and its partners promise Russia unprecedented sanctions in terms of destructive power. “We proceed from the fact that the deployment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on its territory does not and cannot affect the fundamental interests of the United States,” the Russian Foreign Ministry replies, rejecting the thesis that it was Russia that “ignited the armed conflict in the Donbass” and citing as proof of its correctness UN Security Council resolution. “To de-escalate the situation around Ukraine, it is fundamentally important to take the following steps. This is forcing Kiev to comply with the “Package of Measures”, stopping the supply of weapons to Ukraine, withdrawing all Western advisers and instructors from there, refusing any joint exercises with the Armed Forces of Ukraine from NATO countries and withdrawing all foreign weapons previously delivered to Kiev outside Ukrainian territory.” – says the response of the Russian Federation.
