Polish jumpers returned to Poland from the Olympics in Beijing with one medal – a bronze one from the normal hill. This is the worst result since 2006 and the Olympics in Turin, when they did not bring a single medal, but also achievements that probably no one will despise, remembering the circumstances of the current season and the poor results of Polish players in the World Cup.
Tajner returned from the Games and assessed the Poles’ results: Very satisfactory
The result from Beijing was commented by the president, Apoloniusz Tajner, who was with the players in China. – In the context of what happened in the first part of the season, the Olympics turned out very well – said Tajner.
– A month ago was decisive. If the group broke down then, there would be no such sports results. There was, however, full mobilization, which continued during the games themselves. The players and the staff did their best to achieve the best possible results. The ones they achieved, I find very satisfying. I feel proud of this group – argued the activist.
“Every year I hear that we have no successors. We do. And it’s a fairly wide group”
After the Olympics, there was criticism and fear that Polish ski jumping may soon lack talented athletes. – When he was finishing his career, I heard that we will have the next such player in 100 years. Meanwhile, Ma³ysz finished and we had Stoch at once, then more. Every year I hear that we have no successors. We have. And this is quite a wide group of very talented players – he assessed.
He also indicates who, in his opinion, may be the successor and the rest of the experienced players. – The natural leader who should attract this group is, in my opinion, Jakub Wolny. I also still believe in Klemens Murañka and Aleksander Zniszczo³a. When it comes to the younger generation, you can see that Paweł Wąs has stabilized at the A-team level, and there are also Kacper Juroszek, Jaros³aw Krzak and Janek Habdas, the president of PZN pointed out.
Fans and activists will have an opportunity to assess the potential of Polish youth in jumping mainly during the World Junior Championships, which will be held on March 1-6 in. The individual men’s competition is scheduled for March 3.
