UN assesses tensions around Ukraine as the highest since 2014

Tensions around Ukraine have peaked since 2014. This was stated at a meeting of the UN Security Council by the Deputy Secretary General of this organization, Rosemary DiCarlo.

The UN representative calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid unilateral actions, pointing out the possibility and necessity of solving all problems arising around Ukraine by means of diplomacy. In addition, she points to the almost complete lack of progress related to the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

The Security Council meeting is taking place against the backdrop of ongoing reports for the fourth month in a row about Russia’s readiness to “invade” the territory of Ukraine, which are voiced by both the media and political scientists, as well as the leaders of the world’s leading powers. The Russian Federation rejects these assumptions, especially since none of the publicly announced dates for the hypothetical invasion has been confirmed. In the meantime, on the morning of November 17, the self-proclaimed republics of the LPR and DPR reported a severe aggravation of the situation on the line of contact and that Ukraine was attempting to escalate the conflict.
