Green and blue predominate in the landscapes of the Ecuadorian Amazon, an environment that becomes a scene of adventure and fun, particularly on weekends and holidays such as the one that is approaching: carnival. The four-day holiday, from February 26 to March 1, makes it possible to consider destinations that may be more distant.
Going from Guayaquil to Puyo, Pastaza, takes between seven and eight hours of travel. The value of the ticket in public transport cooperatives is $13 plus the terminal fees that vary depending on the location. From Cuenca the trip is shorter, three or four hours, and from Quito the buses take between six and eight as well.
Pastaza offers jungle and adrenaline, but it also limits technology, so post and videos for stories in social networks they will have to wait to reach an area where there is a signal. There is cheap accommodation from $10 per person and more modern hotels with prices from $90.
The Provincial Chamber of Tourism of Pastaza and other tour operators offer among the sites that cannot be missed the waterfall of youth, which is reached after a long walk through ecological trails with native vegetation, leafy trees and wild paths. The tour of more than an hour is fully compensated by this paradisiacal place, hidden in part of the jungle. After a swim in the waterfalls and taking pictures, tourists begin the ascent back through the Yazasi ecological reserve.
Through a less rugged sector and a 45-minute journey, the trail leads to the Kilo waterfall, located on the Puyo-Baños road. “Wonderful landscapes, crystal clear water and stories of mysteries that surround its creation make this place worth visiting”, says Stalyn Ramos after having participated in a tour with a group of tourists.
Mornings in Puyo are ideal for going to the two ecological viewpoints. In Mira Mera there are balloons, nests, swings… and if the visitor is encouraged, they can descend and admire the vegetation and mountains.
For the night there are also activities. The pink zone is the option for those who are looking for music and dance and if they want to add strong emotions, in Lepechau there is an offer of fire cocktails.
In terms of typical gastronomy, in Puyo there are places like Wiajo to try maito, chontacuros and other dishes with endemic spices from the area accompanied by Chinese potatoes, fried yucca.
The volquetero, a dish that contains various products from the Costa, Sierra and Oriente, is recommended at the Astoria restaurant. There the owner, Homero Escobar, 90 years old, details to visitors the history of the dish that contains chifles, chochos, salad, tuna, among other ingredients.
Depending on the budget, tourists can agree to hire the services of Aerosarayacu, for an overflight and visit to a community of Amazonian natives.
