The President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, unexpectedly arrived in the city of Cuenca. He arrived at noon this Thursday the 17th to hold several work meetings behind closed doors.
The first meeting he held was with local businessmen to define some possible investment issues.
Then he went to the Government of Azuay, where he held three meetings, all behind closed doors.
The first was with the mayor of Cuenca, Pedro Palacios; that of Nabón, Patricio Maldonado; that of Paute, Raúl Delgado; and with the provincial president of the National Council of Rural Parish Governments (Conagopare), Janeth Garzón.
The second was with the rectors of local universities and the third, with social leaders.
President Lasso toured neighborhoods in Nabón affected by a landslide that left 150 families affected
The summoned authorities had several proposals.
One of those, that of the mayor of Nabón, Patricio Maldonado, who will ask Lasso to make effective the offer made last week during his visit to that Azuaya town.
On Tuesday of the previous week, he offered a disbursement of $7 million to help in the social and health emergency that they are experiencing due to large landslides.
Guillermo Lasso will sign decrees to speed up pardons for prisoners. His goal: free 5,000 in 90 days to reduce prison overcrowding, he said during a visit to Nabón
That day, he publicly promised to give the first part of the money offered for Tuesday the 15th of this month; but, according to Maldonado, this was not fulfilled.
For her part, the rector of the University of Cuenca, María Augusta Hermida, will raise the need for more financial support, since there is still money pending receipt that exceeds $2 million for an item called “unearned commitments”, and another for “cash balance” that borders $ 11 million.
Until 5:40 p.m., Lasso’s meeting with the Cuenca authorities continued. (I)
