In St. Petersburg, following the results of the appeal, the former head of the administration of the Kalininsky district, Ivan Gromov, was left in custody, accused of fraud with budgetary funds. According to the joint press service of the city’s courts, the case file mentions windfall income and luxury vehicles.
According to investigators, the ex-official, along with his brother Pavel and their spouses, own bank accounts with a “huge turnover of funds”, and a helicopter is assigned to his father.
“Pavel Gromov, a brother, and also an accomplice of Ivan Gromov, received an official salary that he did not withdraw, and therefore, it can be concluded that he existed on money that was obtained by criminal means,” the prosecution said.
The lawyer of the ex-official reminded the court about three minor children and an unemployed dependent wife, pointed out that the passport was confiscated from the accused, and therefore he could not hide. The Gromovs’ father owns a helicopter registered to his company for flights to other cities where the business is located, and there is “nothing reprehensible” in this, the defender is sure.
The city court refused to transfer the person involved in the case under house arrest and left a preventive measure in the form of imprisonment in a pre-trial detention center.
Recall that the Gromov brothers were detained in December 2021 on charges of eight episodes of fraud in the amount of more than 165 million rubles. Investigators are looking into the legal status of another 537 million rubles.
