Prosecutor’s Office opens investigation for harassment of sports journalists; Mario Canessa, one of those mentioned in videos, defends himself and talks about ‘joda’

After videos were circulated in which reference was made to harassment against women workers in sports spaces, the Prosecutor’s Office announced, on its social networks, that it had opened an investigation ex officio for alleged sexual harassment of sports journalists, events that would have occurred in a station of Guayaquil, published the judicial institution.

The justice entity indicated that a former collaborator of that media outlet made the facts public on social networks and called on the authorities to investigate the alleged “sexual favors in exchange for working on the radio,” the Prosecutor’s Office published.

Over the weekend, several videos circulated on social networks alluding to these events.

Among these were those of María Soledad Reyes, who was a sports journalist. In her stories in which she made reference to complaints she made years ago and irregularities that would have occurred in the sports field and in the media, she also mentioned that “the worst thing that happened to that group (radio)” was the experienced by women who worked with an employee who has already passed away.

She said that girls reported to her that they asked her for sexual favors in exchange for being able to work on a radio station belonging to the group she was referring to (Caravana). And she stressed that this is an open secret in the world of sports journalism.

Mario Canessa, founder of the Caranava group, spoke on his radio program about these complaints, and also answered on his social networks about what happened on a television program in which a presenter is heard saying: “what do you do to be so good?”.

“When I attended that program they told me that the format was like this is how you say a joke and for that reason I asked that question that I did not try to bother, as has been my habit. I think that if it was so, I apologize if Ms. She felt uncomfortable”, Canessa replied, on the night of this Monday the 14th, to a tweet from Luis Eduardo Vivanco.

And hours before, in a radio program, Canessa said that the weekend has been attacked on social networks and that everything has “been made up” in order to “deteriorate the Caravana group”, in which he is, and him, with “commercial purposes that coincide with sports rights of the national championship that are in dispute at the moment”.

In the radio program he assured that they are in full investigation to find “the producer” of that plan where they are discredited.

He assured that he is entitled to take legal action for the Caravana group and that the lawyers are analyzing the case to present him with the alternatives that he can propose. He did not rule out pursuing legal action.

He also mentioned that they have used the journalist who spoke in several videos.
