Residents of Norilsk are outraged by the quality of drinking water coming from the taps – it emits the smell of petroleum products and leaves a greasy coating on their hands. This is reported by the site “Taiga. info”, referring to the feedback from residents of the Kayerkan microdistrict, in particular, the chairman of the public organization “My Home” Norilsk city “Ruslan Abdullaev.
The activist claims that water for the needs of the microdistrict is taken from the Ambarnaya River. More than 20 thousand tons of fuel got into this river in May 2020 after an accident at a tank with oil products on the territory of CHPP-3 of JSC Norilsk-Taimyr Energy Company (JSC NTEK, part of Norilsk Nickel). Damage from the fuel spill amounted to 148 billion rubles, which corresponds to eight annual budgets of Norilsk.
Earlier, the department of Rospotrebnadzor in the Krasnoyarsk Territory fined NTEK, which supplies the city with water, for an increased content of iron found in hot water. The company will have to pay the fine and eliminate the violations by April 2022.
“The problem really exists,” admits the city administration, whose position is stated by the newspaper Severny Krai. “Starting from February 14, we start sampling from sources and from consumers, followed by water testing. On the part of the administration, a working group has been created, which includes representatives of the resource supply, grid organizations, representatives of the administration, the department of the chief power engineer of Norilsk Nickel, where we will solve the issue of stabilizing the quality of water supply as a matter of routine.”
