Following the results of last year, France raised the volume of trade with Russia above the level that the countries had before the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation.
Thus, according to this indicator, France turned out to be the first and so far the only one of Russia’s ten largest trading partners in the EU, Ksenia Bannikova, head of the non-resource sector economy of the Center for Strategic Research, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to her, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, France, Finland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Spain and Slovakia were in the top 10 EU countries in terms of foreign trade turnover with Russia last year, PRIME notes.
“Of the ten countries listed, only with France the volume of foreign trade turnover in 2021 reached and exceeded the level of 2013, which preceded the year of the introduction of sanctions against Russia and retaliatory measures in the form of a food embargo. Turnover with the rest of the countries studied remains below the levels of 2013 and 2014,” Bannikova said.
We also add that, according to the estimates of the Federal Customs Service, at the end of 2021, the positive foreign trade balance of the Russian Federation increased by 88.4% compared to 2021 and amounted to $197.3 billion. Exports last year increased by 45.7% to $493, 3 billion, imports – by 26.5% to $296.1 billion. In general, Russia’s foreign trade turnover increased by 37.9% in 2021 to $789.4 billion.
